Behind the Scenes at London Bakery: Seeing Operations Come to Life

Usually in operations and supply chain management lessons are limited to the classroom. As students we are taught about processes, workflows, inventory and efficiency in theory, however it is rare to see how all of this works in real life. That changed for me when I got to visit London Bakery with my operations and supply chain management professor as a part of university field visit.  The moment we stepped behind the scenes it was clear that baking at this scale is much more that just making bread. Each stage of the operations was carefully structured, from getting raw ingredients to preparing, baking, packaging and distributing products across different outlets. Everything was extremely tightly coordinated and each process ensured freshness, quality and quantity.  Seeing the baking process helped me connect the concepts we had learnt in class to reality. Concepts like process flow, inventory planning, quality control and time management weren't just ideas they were actually ...

Exploring AI in Qatar’s Universities

If I was asked what is the most challenging assignment I have ever done, I would have to choose the research assignment I had to do in my final BTEC year. It was quite and overwhelming experience, Artificial Intelligence sounded complex and technical. At that point, I thought this research assignment would simply be another assignment I needed to finish and get it done with. I didn’t expect it to completely change the way I think about learning, teaching and my own future. At the beginning, the biggest challenge was understanding and deciding where to start. AI is everywhere, yet defining its role in higher education felt unclear. I had to move beyond surface-level assumptions and actually understand how tools like adaptive learning systems, automated feedback and AI-powered analytics are changing the way how classrooms function in Qatar. Conducting both primary and secondary research forced me to step into the role of a researcher rather than just a student completing an assignment. ...

Lessons beyond the classroom

The past two years of working toward my diploma have been some of the most challenging, yet rewarding, years of my life. When I first joined the program, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Now, looking back I can see how far I’ve come, not just in terms of knowledge, but in who I am as a person and as a future professional. From day one,  all the courses demanded commitment, a lot of discipline and resilience. Whether it was learning important concept, getting through group projects or working on assignments, every step taught me something new not just about the subject but about how I learn and work the best. One of the most valuable parts of this journey was the  real-world focus  of the curriculum. We didn’t just study theory, we learned how its used and applied in the business world. I started to understand how organizations work, how decisions are made and what it means to be part of a team. As insightful as it was, it was anything but easy, there were moments of...

What my first HR internship taught me about the real world of work

The summer of 2023 was when I got to experience my very first internship at Nakilat’s HR department. Stepping into a professional setting for the first time felt exciting, a little nerve-wracking but mostly eye-opening. It was the moment when all the theories I’d learned in class started to make sense in real life. During my time there, I got the chance to see how an HR department actually functions on a daily basis. I helped with recruitment tasks, attended meetings and learned about employee engagement and development. What surprised me most was how much HR is about people, not just paperwork. Every decision, conversation, and policy had a purpose which was to support the team and make sure everyone felt valued and motivated. One of the biggest lessons I learned was how important communication and attention to detail are in HR. Even small actions, like how you phrase an email or listen to a colleague’s concern, can make a big difference. I also got to see how empathy and professional...
