Exploring AI in Qatar’s Universities
If I was asked what is the most challenging assignment I have ever done, I would have to choose the research assignment I had to do in my final BTEC year. It was quite and overwhelming experience, Artificial Intelligence sounded complex and technical. At that point, I thought this research assignment would simply be another assignment I needed to finish and get it done with. I didn’t expect it to completely change the way I think about learning, teaching and my own future.
At the beginning, the biggest challenge was understanding and deciding where to start. AI is everywhere, yet defining its role in higher education felt unclear. I had to move beyond surface-level assumptions and actually understand how tools like adaptive learning systems, automated feedback and AI-powered analytics are changing the way how classrooms function in Qatar. Conducting both primary and secondary research forced me to step into the role of a researcher rather than just a student completing an assignment.
One of the most eye-opening parts of this project was collecting and analyzing data. Designing survey questions, thinking about ethics, and interpreting responses from students and educators made me realize how different real research is from textbook examples. Many participants expressed excitement about AI’s ability to personalize learning and improve efficiency but there were also quite a few concerns about being over-reliant on technology, data privacy, and the risk of reducing human interaction in education.
What really changed my perspective was figuring out how closely AI in education is connected to my own learning journey. I realized that tools I had already been using like feedback systems and online learning platforms, were part of a much bigger transformation. AI is not replacing educators, instead, it has the potential to support them, improve engagement in classrooms and help students learn in ways that suit their individual needs. However, this only works when AI is implemented ethically and thoughtfully.
This assignment also challenged me personally. Managing time efficiently, analysing data and maintaining academic integrity while researching pushed me out of my comfort zone. I learned how to think critically, question sources and justify my arguments with evidence rather than opinion. More importantly, I gained confidence in my ability to handle complex, real-world topics.
Looking back, this research assignment was more than an academic task. It helped me understand the future of education in Qatar and my place within it as a learner and future professional. It taught me that meaningful learning happens when curiosity replaces fear and challenges are seen as opportunities to grow. This project didn’t just teach me about Artificial Intelligence, it changed how I approach learning itself.
A great achievement and a pleasure to read. Keep it up 👍🏼
